Brunel Victory!

Sixty students demonstrated at Brunel university demanding that management withdraw threats to deregister students who had not paid their fees. There are at least 700 students at Brunel who have not paid their fees. SFE members and Socialist Stuidents got hte student union to call a general meeting. This meeting decided to call a protest outside the senate meeting. The senate meeting agred to postpone this deadline another week and introduce an installment plan for payment. The union has written to the government opposing the increase in fees and calling for their immediate abolition. |

Sorry, gone to work!

A TUC survey has found out what many students already know, that students are being forced into low-paid casual jobs to make ends meet. The survey found that as many as 72% of students are having to work mjust to survive at college. Many students say this is effecting thier course work, 26% say they had missed lectures and seminars. |

Two weeks after the successful SFE national day of action, which saw Southampton University's first campus demo for years, students were out demonstrating again, this time under the banner of the newly formed United for Free Eucation society. Hundreds of students supported the protest, many new students coming on the demo and over 60 students filling in non-payment pledges to suppoirt the campaign. |
